Aliza Sherman notes a number of Collaboration Ware offerings targeted at the Distributed Team.

Nathan Lewis has been writing about why we should be living in Traditional City-s (Urban Village) for a few years already.

Jon Udell interviews Andy Singleton about managed Distributed Team-s (Software Development). Don’t estimate. It’s just extra work. If you know your tasks and priorities (To-Do List), go after them in order. Estimation won’t help, and will cost 10% of your time... One of the key enablers of effective distributed work is a common event stream to which everyone can subscribe. To that end, the Assembla website has embraced WebHooks.

Ross Mayfield says in a distributed organization (Distributed Team), Leadership matters more than Management... This is similar to Eugene Eric Kim's point that "there is no such thing as Collaboration without a goal (Shared Goal)."... At the scale of a distributed Start Up, leadership amounts to establishing a Fo Cus.

Robert Fogel has a new Changing Body book (ISBN:9780521879750) about changes in human Body Height and Life Expectancy over the millenia. Mr. Fogel and his co-authors, Roderick Floud, Bernard Harris and Sok Chul Hong, maintain that “in most if not quite all parts of the world, the size, shape and longevity of the human body have changed more substantially, and much more rapidly, during the past three centuries than over many previous millennia.” What’s more, they write, this alteration has come about within a time frame that is “minutely short by the standards of Darwinian evolution.” (more)

InstaPaper's creator plans to drop his Freemium model and just have the paid app (End Of Free). If you have a free version of your app, that will be the only version many people will ever see. So, for the Free users, that app — that extremely limited app that lacks almost all of Instapaper’s best features — is what they think Instapaper is.

Mozilla Drumbeat is using Open Innovation Challenges. What we’re building is like OpenIdeo, challenge.gov or even 99 designs (arguably). We want to enable simple, distributed Brain Storming and Problem Solving... Our version of an open innovation platform will be built on top of Drumbeat.org, but it will be based on Django and fairly portable... One cool thing we’re exploring is how to do this in a distributed way. We’d like to solicit and syndicate submissions across the web, so that anyone can start a challenge anywhere, and partner sites can publish ideas that are coming through the cycle.

Robert Paterson thinks we're facing some huge challenges/transitions soon (whether Network Economy or Collapse, big changes), and a pioneer-spirit is an important thing to give our kids. And that the structure of schools for Educating Kids does the opposite.
